CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE For many years, the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong has pursued a consistent strategy of strengthening business ties for the business communities in Norway, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. This strategy has involved a rigorous look at the competencies of the Chamber and their improvements. The Chamber has assessed how well the resources are used in light of emerging trends in the information technology services sector. Following the introduction of the monthly newsletter in late 1999, the Chamber has further strengthened its communication system by establishing an internet site. The establishment of the internet site for the Chamber allows additional cooperation and support among the members in areas of common interest, such as business opportunities, investments, trade, cultural exchange, tourism and other activities; provides more channels for members to express and share their views with each other or the public; permits the collection and dissemination of information relevant to the commercial objectives of the members; and increases the awareness in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong of the variety of products and services available from Norwegian exporters in the member organizations. The Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong is composed of 40 members who are representatives from the various sectors of the Norwegian business community. The Chamber is working closely with the Norwegian Trade Council and business associations to create a greater Norwegian presence at important trade events in Norway, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. As Chairman of the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, I am proud of the internet site and am certain that members will find it informative. 18 January 2000 BILL H WONG Chairman |
